In the Canadian north in 1942, Brian MacLean (James Cagney) flies freight and passengers as a bush pilot, answering to no one. Churchill's Dunkirk speech sends him and three friends to enlist in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and Michael Curtiz shot the Technicolor film entirely in Canada. Brian is brash and undisciplined, and the RCAF is built on discipline, so he has to decide whether he can take orders at all.
