Carandiru

(2003)Directed by Héctor Babenco145 min · RDrama
“Inside here nobody is guilty. Do you believe that?”

A doctor (Luiz Carlos Vasconcelos) walks into Carandiru, the largest prison in Latin America, to start an AIDS prevention program among the men held in São Paulo's Casa de Detenção. The cells give him Majestade (Aílton Graça), Nego Preto (Ivan de Almeida) and a crowd of others, each with a story, all of them a few months from the massacre of 1992. Héctor Babenco shot it inside the prison itself, which had been shut down and stood just months from demolition.
