Carmen: A Hip Hopera

“No man can resist her.”

Hill (Mekhi Phifer) is a Philadelphia policeman with a fiancée named Nikki (Joy Bryant) and a lieutenant, Miller (Yasiin Bey), who bends the rules. Then he meets Carmen Brown (Beyoncé), and the life he planned starts to loosen. Robert Townsend sets Bizet's 1875 opera in Philadelphia and Los Angeles and swaps the arias for hip-hop and R&B, with the old story still about desire that people can't put down.
