“Something Really New! Something Truly Different!”

Carmen Jones (Dorothy Dandridge) works as a parachute maker at an all-Black army camp, and she has her pick of the men. She wants Joe (Harry Belafonte), a soldier engaged to sweet Cindy Lou (Olga James) and headed for pilot training before the Korean War. Otto Preminger sets Hammerstein's lyrics to Bizet's music for an all-Black cast, filming the whole thing like a stage piece.
