“Its time has come.”

Two friends can talk about women for hours and still not understand why every encounter leaves them emptier. Jonathan (Jack Nicholson) and Sandy (Art Garfunkel) start as college roommates trading stories about Susan (Candice Bergen), and Mike Nichols follows them through the decades that come after. Each is looking for what the other seems to have, and neither has yet worked out what the wanting will cost him.
