“More than your eyes have ever seen!”

Billy Bigelow (Gordon MacRae) has been dead for fifteen years when he is made to stand outside the pearly gates and tell his story to the gatekeeper before he can go anywhere. He hears there is trouble back on Earth with his wife Julie (Shirley Jones) and with the child he has never met, and he wants to go down and help. Henry King adapts the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, and the price of that one return is whatever Billy has left to answer for.
