Carriage to Vienna

In the last days of the Second World War, Krista (Iva Janžurová) is a young woman with a horse and carriage, caught on the road as the Russian army advances. Two Austrian soldiers, Hans (Jaromír Hanzlík) and Günther (Luděk Munzar), force her to drive them toward Vienna so they can save a wounded friend. Karel Kachyňa films the journey in restrained, unhurried scenes, and the film was banned after the 1968 invasion.
