Carrie

In the late 1890s, Carrie Meeber (Jennifer Jones) steps off the train in Chicago and moves in with her sister, whose crowded South Side household has little room for her. Short of money, she turns to Charles Drouet (Eddie Albert), a traveling salesman, and then meets George Hurstwood (Laurence Olivier), the married manager of a restaurant. William Wyler's film is about wanting a better life, and how readily that wanting settles on whoever seems able to give it.
