“Six Women. One Dream.”

Jennifer (Maggie Gyllenhaal), Skipper (Daryl Hannah), and Nan (Marcia Gay Harden) fly from the United States to South America, each sure she will come home with an orphaned child. John Sayles puts them in a residence hotel, where local law makes them wait out an extended stay before any adoption can happen. The days stretch on, the women trade hopes and worries, and every week abroad costs them more of what they came for.
