“The First 007 Screen Adventure!”

In 1954, the anthology series Climax! broadcast live the first screen adaptation of an Ian Fleming novel, with the hero recast as an American spy. James Bond (Barry Nelson) sits down at a baccarat table to outplay Le Chiffre (Peter Lorre), a card-playing crime boss, while Leiter (Michael Pate) helps him keep watch. William H. Brown Jr. directs, and the whole contest is a matter of nerve across a table.
