A ghost named Casper (Malachi Pearson) haunts a mansion on the New England coast, and no one knows why he can't move on. Kat (Christina Ricci), the daughter of a paranormal investigator, Dr. James Harvey (Bill Pullman), arrives with her father to assess the house, only to discover that Casper wants friendship more than he wants to frighten anyone away. In the space between a girl and a ghost, a bond forms that neither expected.
