Casque d'Or

Marie (Simone Signoret) has come to a dance hall in Joinville at the end of the nineteenth century, a young woman bound to a Paris gang, and her pinned-up hair is what people remember her for. Georges (Serge Reggiani), a carpenter and former delinquent, asks her to dance, and Jacques Becker builds the story from that one meeting. The film was loosely drawn from a 1902 love triangle that the newspapers wouldn't leave alone, and Marie is the woman at its center.
