“The living and the dead change places in an orgy of terror!”

A bet is placed at a dinner: a journalist named Alan Foster (Georges Rivière) says he'll spend a night in a haunted castle, and Edgar Allan Poe (Silvano Tranquilli) wagers he won't last until morning. Inside, Alan meets Elisabeth Blackwood (Barbara Steele), who does not behave like a ghost should. Antonio Margheriti films the castle in black and white, every corridor and staircase drawn with sharp, deep shadow.
