“50,000 bands and 1 disgusting bathroom.”

In 1973, Hilly Kristal (Alan Rickman) opens a club on the Lower East Side of New York and names it for the country, bluegrass and blues he plans to book there. Instead the stage fills with loud young bands, among them Cheetah Chrome (Rupert Grint) and Debbie Harry (Malin Akerman), who turn up with no money and nowhere else to play. Randall Miller adds comic book-style panels and onscreen text to name the figures passing through the door.
