“Life doesn't hold tryouts.”

Twelve teenagers arrive at the American Ballet Academy in New York, each one hoping to turn years of training into a career in dance. Among them are Jody Sawyer (Amanda Schull) and Eva Rodríguez (Zoe Saldaña), who share a studio with the rest of the class under the eye of director Jonathan Reeves (Peter Gallagher). Nicholas Hytner follows all twelve through the stress of daily class, and only a few will be kept on.
