“Between hope and solitude, two lives cross and reinvent themselves”

Dora (Fernanda Montenegro), a retired schoolteacher, wants only to get through her days writing letters for illiterate strangers at Rio's Central Station, and she pockets the money without always mailing them. When a boy named Josué (Vinícius de Oliveira) loses his mother, Dora is pulled into taking him to find the father he has never met. Walter Salles follows them away from the city, Dora in her dark glasses, Josué beside her, both of them strangers to the road.
