Chains

In postwar Italy, Guglielmo Aniello (Amedeo Nazzari) lives a settled married life with his wife Rosa (Yvonne Sanson), until her criminal ex-lover arrives and pulls her toward the man she once left behind. Raffaello Matarazzo builds the melodrama around Rosa's divided loyalty. What the film puts in front of them is a marriage held together by love and strained by a past neither person can leave outside the door.
