“Alex has a lifetime full of wonderful memories. Unfortunately, they're not his.”

A young man named Alex Finch (Robert Downey Jr.) walks into the home of Corinne Jeffries (Cybill Shepherd) and starts remembering a life that was never his. It belonged to Louie Jeffries (Christopher McDonald), her husband, killed crossing a road on their first anniversary. Emile Ardolino lets the old friend and the widow circle a loss neither has finished with, and the film leaves them holding the plain, stubborn fact that love does not stop when a person does.
