Chasing Mavericks

“Legends start somewhere.”

In Santa Cruz, Northern California, a teenage surfer named Jay Moriarity (Jonny Weston) sets his mind on riding Mavericks, the break that locals treat as a place to stay away from. He asks Frosty Hesson (Gerard Butler), a neighbor who knows the water, to train him, and Jay's mother Christy (Elisabeth Shue) looks on. Curtis Hanson and Michael Apted film the long days at the shoreline in warm, faded light, with a crowd-pleaser's easy sense of summer.
