Children of Paradise
“AT LAST! The Celebrated French Film.”
Paris in the 1830s crowds the Boulevard du Crime with aristocrats, thieves, psychics and courtesans, and Baptiste Debureau (Jean-Louis Barrault), a mime in the theaters there, loves the mysterious Garance (Arletty). Marcel Carné gives her four other men to answer to, among them the actor Frédérick Lemaître (Pierre Brasseur) and the thief Lacenaire (Marcel Herrand). Baptiste has the quiet of his white-painted face, and nothing in him can say it aloud.
