“There's a fine line between friendship and betrayal.”

Harry Levine (Al Pacino) is an aging Greenwich Village writer who has never made a living at it, and the restaurant where he stood as doorman has just let him go. He goes to see his old friend and mentor Jake Manheim (Jerry Orbach), saying he has come to collect a debt that has gone unpaid for years. Pacino directs this adaptation of Ira Lewis's play, and the visit turns on what the two men owe each other beyond money.
