A foreign dictator, Baron Bomburst (Gert Fröbe), sends his agents after a flying car that has just made a hapless inventor's fortune. The inventor is Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke), who has the car, two children, and a father, Grandpa Potts (Lionel Jeffries), to look after. Ken Hughes puts Caractacus beside Truly Scrumptious (Sally Ann Howes), and the two of them are on the road together before either would call it affection.
