“The true story of the first black artist.”

Nobody in Belle Epoque Paris has seen a black man on a circus stage before Rafael Padilla (Omar Sy), who goes by Chocolat, and nobody knows what to make of him. He is paired with the white clown George Footit (James Thierrée), and their act, built on slaps and pratfalls, fills the houses. Roschdy Zem follows the money, the gambling tables and the long wait backstage, where Chocolat stands alone with his costume still on.
