Christine Weiring (Romy Schneider) is a young woman in Vienna in 1906, and she falls hard for the lieutenant Franz Lobheiner (Alain Delon). Franz is already seeing the married Baroness von Eggersdorf, and the Baron learns of it. Pierre Gaspard-Huit follows Christine as she gives her whole heart to a man whose attention is still divided.
