“The story of a man, a land and a love!”

On April 22, 1889, thousands of settlers line up at the Oklahoma border, waiting for the signal to ride out and claim free land. Yancey Cravat (Glenn Ford) goes in with his wife Sabra (Maria Schell), planning to raise a family and start a newspaper in the territory. Anthony Mann sets their ambitions against a frontier already filling up, and the Cravats have to hold onto what they stake before the settlers behind them take it.
