Pat Loud (Diane Lane) is a Santa Barbara mother of five whose family agrees to let a film crew follow them around the house for months. Producer Craig Gilbert (James Gandolfini) wants an honest look at a household, and Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman stage the shoot in grainy 1970s texture beside Bill (Tim Robbins) and Lance (Thomas Dekker). The film turns on what a family becomes once it knows the camera is always running.
