In 1960 Britain, Dr. Schuler (Anton Diffring), a plastic surgeon on the run from the police after a botched operation, hides inside a traveling circus with his nurse. Sidney Hayers sends him among the show's deformed women, whom he befriends and remakes for his "Temple of Beauty." Schuler's gift for transforming faces keeps the circus alive, and anyone who threatens to leave meets a mysterious accident.
