“SEE AND HEAR LIFE IN THE "RAW" WITH THE "CITY GIRL"”

In 1930 Chicago, Kate (Mary Duncan) waits tables in a diner, worn down by the city, until Lem Tustine (Charles Farrell), a farmer's son from Minnesota, comes through. They marry, and she goes home with him hoping for a better life on the land. Murnau follows her onto the farm, where Lem's Father (David Torrence) stands in the doorway, and the wheat fields lie behind him.
