City Streets
“Love and courage pitted against a ruthless hate!”
In 1931, Nan Cooley (Sylvia Sidney) is the daughter of a mobster, living among the bootleggers who run the city's nightlife. She falls for the Kid (Gary Cooper), who works a shooting gallery at the circus, and he follows her into the beer racket. Rouben Mamoulian's film, from a story by Dashiell Hammett, rests on the two of them, her wary hope and his easy trust in her.
