Emily Wang (Maggie Cheung Man-yuk) comes out of prison with no job, no home, and a record that follows her everywhere. Olivier Assayas tracks her through the first months of staying off drugs, with Albrecht Hauser (Nick Nolte), the father of the son she lost, close to the edge of the frame. If she stays clean long enough, she might get the boy back.
