“What if you had a universal remote...that controlled your universe?”

Where does a universal remote come from, and why does a loopy sales clerk named Morty (Christopher Walken) hand one to Michael Newman (Adam Sandler)? Michael is an architect who works late to please a boss who takes him for granted, leaving little time for his wife Donna (Kate Beckinsale) and their kids. Frank Coraci plays the remote's powers broadly for laughs first, then lets the comedy go quieter around the family.
