Max Rosenthal (Mark Strong), a police officer in Romania, has quietly joined a small crew of bank robbers. Their plan is to rob a bank in front of a full room of witnesses, who are told that the whole thing is a film shoot. Nae Caranfil builds the picture around the crew, and Alice Bercovich (Vera Farmiga) stands closest to Max, caught between the lie they are telling the crowd and whatever they are to each other.
