Ethel Ann (Shirley MacLaine) has spent decades in Michigan with the husband she married after Teddy (Stephen Amell) was killed in battle in the 1940s. Then Jimmy arrives from Belfast with a ring pulled from the wreckage of a crashed plane, and she has to decide whether to travel with him and meet the soldier who last saw Teddy alive. Richard Attenborough, directing his final film, moves between her wartime youth and her present.
