“Everything is connected.”

Adam Ewing (Jim Sturgess) wants to get home across the sea in the 19th century, and a single act of kindness along the way sets off a chain that will reach a revolution in a distant post-apocalyptic future. Six stories sit nested inside one another, and Tom Hanks and Halle Berry turn up in each of them as different people. Lilly Wachowski, Lana Wachowski and Tom Tykwer cut between the eras so that a gesture in one lands as a consequence in another.
