Cluny Brown

(1946)Directed by Ernst Lubitsch100 minRomance, Comedy
“At Last...The Stars You've Wanted - In Each Other's Arms!”

England, 1946 on the screen but a country house of an earlier, smugger time, where a young woman named Cluny Brown (Jennifer Jones) arrives to begin work as a servant. Her uncle has sent her there because she keeps fixing other people's pipes, and the household would rather she didn't. Adam Belinski (Charles Boyer) turns up as a fellow outsider, and Lubitsch, in the last film he finished, treats the manners of the English upper class with a dry, amused eye.
