Mia Scott (Bel Powley), a crime reporter, becomes obsessed with a string of unsolved murders that seem to follow a pattern no one else can see. She pulls in Diane Heger (Tracee Ellis Ross), a seasoned detective, and together they chase leads through a maze of small details and dead ends. By the end, Mia sits alone in her apartment, the case files spread across her desk, the city dark outside the window.
