“How many men can one bullet kill?”

One night in 1989, Richard Dane (Michael C. Hall) hears a noise in his Texas house and shoots a burglar dead. The town calls him a hero, until the dead man's father, an ex-con named Russell (Sam Shepard), arrives and starts watching Richard's family. Jim Mickle shoots it in grainy, low-lit frames that look dug out of the 1970s, and lets the dread build slowly.
