Colonel Chabert
Colonel Chabert (Gérard Depardieu) wants his name, his fortune and his wife back, all of which he lost when he was reported dead on the battlefield. The lawyer Derville (Fabrice Luchini) hears out his claim, while Chabert's widow (Fanny Ardant) has since remarried a count and has no wish to see him. Yves Angelo, adapting Balzac's novel, shoots the fight for restitution in muted candlelight and cramped offices.
