Comrade X

(1940)Directed by King Vidor90 minComedy, Romance
“This Year's Laugh Riot!”

McKinley B. "Mac" Thompson (Clark Gable) is an American reporter in Moscow who gets his stories past the Soviet censors by smuggling them out himself. When his secret is discovered, he is blackmailed into helping a beautiful Communist (Hedy Lamarr) leave the country. King Vidor plays it as a chase comedy, with a reporter and his captive trading barbs, and the fun comes from two people who start on opposite sides of an ideology.
