Comradeship

An explosion underground traps a crew of French miners at a pit on the border between France and Germany. Wittkopp (Ernst Busch) and Kasper (Alexander Granach), German miners, decide to crawl down a crumbling tunnel left over from the war, though their bosses want the border kept shut. G.W. Pabst fills the dark shafts with dust and shouting, and the men on either side of the line keep calling each other comrade.
