“Take a journey to the heart of the universe.”

Ellie Arroway (Jodie Foster) is a radio astronomer who spends her working days listening to static, convinced that someone out there is sending a signal. When her instruments finally catch one, governments and skeptics move in, including Palmer Joss (Matthew McConaughey), a man of faith. Robert Zemeckis, working from Carl Sagan's novel, shoots the Very Large Array in New Mexico and the Arecibo dish as vast, quiet places where one person sits and waits.
