“He had the spirit, but lost the feeling.”
Ian Curtis (Sam Riley) is a schoolboy in 1970s Macclesfield, a quiet teenager who marries Debbie (Samantha Morton) young and then becomes the singer of Joy Division. Anton Corbijn, who photographed the band, shoots their rise in black and white. The film follows Ian's marriage as the band takes off and he falls for Annik Honoré (Alexandra Maria Lara), leaving Debbie and Annik each holding a different half of him.
