Joe Hufford (Glenn Ford) is a prisoner who wants one thing, to prove he never belonged behind bars. George Knowland (Broderick Crawford), the warden, takes an interest in his case, and Henry Levin keeps the story in the daily routines of the prison, the guards, the rules, and the paperwork. Inside the walls, Joe waits, with Captain Douglas (Carl Benton Reid) close by.
