Cool Kids Don't Cry

Akkie (Hanna Obbeek) is a soccer-mad girl in her last year of primary school who bullies the other kids and is afraid of only one thing, love. Then she is diagnosed with leukemia, just as she is about to start high school, and she has to fight for her life while a boy named Joep (Nils Verkooijen) edges closer. Dennis Bots adapts Jacques Vriens's Dutch children's novel and plays it plainly, at a child's eye level, and lets the sadness arrive without any dressing up.
