Coolie

“If you have an item of death in your hands then I have God’s name in my heart.”

A flood tears Iqbal (Amitabh Bachchan) away from his mother Salma (Waheeda Rehman) and his brother, and he grows up hauling luggage as a coolie at Mumbai's railway station. Manmohan Desai gives him a crowd of porters to stand with and a businessman who wants them put down. Underneath the songs and brawls is a plain question of whether a man who carries other people's loads is owed the same dignity as those he serves.
