Cotton Comes to Harlem

(1970)Directed by Ossie Davis97 min · RAction, Comedy, Crime
“Introducing COFFIN ED and GRAVEDIGGER. Two detectives only a mother could love.”

Harlem in 1970, and the Rev. Deke O'Malley (Calvin Lockhart) is taking small donations from people who believe they are buying a piece of land in Africa. Detectives Gravedigger Jones (Godfrey Cambridge) and Coffin Ed Johnson (Raymond St. Jacques) trace the money to a bale of cotton, and then the cash disappears. Ossie Davis plays the two cops as partners who argue and joke and cover each other's backs on every block they walk.
