Counsellor at Law

(1933)Directed by William Wyler82 minDrama
“Great is the word for...COUNSELLOR AT LAW!”

In 1933 New York, George Simon (John Barrymore) runs a busy law practice whose waiting room is full of clients, secretaries and ringing phones. William Wyler, adapting Elmer Rice's play, keeps the story inside those offices. Behind the success are a wife, Cora (Doris Kenyon), who has gone cold on him, and a poor past he has worked hard to bury, and the film is about what a man pays to climb out of one life into another.
