Coup d'Etat
Ikki Kita (Rentaro Mikuni) is an ultranationalist thinker whose writings have become the creed of young army officers in Japan. He gives them the ideas, and he lets them carry the weapons toward the attempted overthrow of the government on 26 February 1936. Yoshishige Yoshida, closing his loose trilogy after Eros + Massacre and Heroic Purgatory, shapes the film as a freely imagined portrait rather than a record of the facts.
