Kathie Eleanor Merrick (Elizabeth Taylor) takes in a collie pup named Bill, lost from his litter and used to the company of the wild creatures he befriended on his own. An accident parts the two, and Bill ends up drafted into K-9 service in the trenches, while Fred M. Wilcox follows his long road back home. Underneath it all is a plain question of whether a dog changed by war can still be the one a child loved.
