“THE REAL, TRUE STORY OF THE WEST!”

Frank Harris (Jack Lemmon) works the front desk of a Chicago hotel in 1958, trading his days for a dream of the open range. When the father of the woman he loves turns him away, he finds trail boss Tom Reese (Glenn Ford) and talks his way onto the cattle drive. The tenderfoot learns fast that the work is nothing like the picture in his head. Delmer Daves films the drive in wide, dry daylight, with a Saul Bass title sequence up front.
